MoneyHelp offers a free phone financial counselling service (1800 149 689) for Victorians who have lost or are facing losing their jobs, or are working reduced hours because of the global economic downturn.
If you do not qualify for MoneyHelp assistance but would like to speak to a financial counsellor about managing your debts, contact Consumer Affairs Victoria (1300 558 181), who will provide you with the contact details of financial counsellors who work in your area.
If you live outside Victoria and want to access a financial counsellor, you will find a list of financial counselling agencies on the Australian Securities and Investments Commission website (www.fido.gov.au).
If you are a primary producer, fisher or run a small rural business and wish to access a financial counsellor you should phone the Rural Financial Counselling service on 1800 686 175 for details about a service that operates in your area.
